Cactus Reining Classic - March 15 - 23, 2024

$10,000 Added Open Division will run concurrent with the Open Derby divisions, March 23 at WestWorld of Scottsdale. This division is being offered as the only Million Dollar Competition Qualifier for The Run For A Million 2024. The top ten placings will join the riders who already qualified at the 2023 The Run For A Million Open Shootout to compete for $1,000,000 in prize money. In the case of ties for tenth place, exhibitors will be required to run off for 10th place. Riders not willing to run off will forfeit their placing.

2024 $10,000 ADDED MILLION DOLLAR COMPETITION QUALIFIER ENTRY REQUIREMENTS – ENTRY FEE

An entry can be canceled at any time prior to the draw being posted to receive a full refund. Riders can enter up to three entries, horses of any age, and horses used in qualifier are not required to be ridden in the Million Dollar Competition.

RIDER ENTRY FEE PAYMENTS, RECEIVED BY MARCH 1, 2024

$1,200 per horse, includes $200 judges fee (Entries received after March 1, 2024 will result in a $500 Late Fee)

IT IS THE EXHIBITOR’S RESPONSIBILITY TO BE FULLY AWARE OF ALL TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THIS EVENT.

This event taking place at WestWorld of Scottsdale is being videotaped/recorded for a Truly Original, LLC (“Company”) program currently entitled “The Last Cowboy” (the “Series”). All exhibitors must sign the APPEARANCE RELEASE for entry into the event.

WILD CARD REINING CHALLENGE CONDITIONS

Wild Card is a division offered for horses that are four (4) years of age as of the start of the calendar year. Horses cannot have won in excess of $3,500 in any approved NRHA Category 2, three year old aged event.

AMATEUR DERBY INFORMATION

The Cactus Reining Classic introduced the Amateur Derby Division to level the playing field of competition for Non Professional exhibitors. We feel that there’s a big group of NRHA members out there that the deck is stacked against them. Probably a lot of them are level 1 and 2, and they do not have a barn full of horses. We created this division where they could have fun and take home a check, eg, an division without professional’s spouses and kids, and without competitors who have won in excess of $100,000.

AMATEUR DERBY CRITERIA FOR ENTRY: For horses four, five, six and seven years of age as of the start of the calendar year.
The criteria are as follows:

To compete in the amateur division, the same horse/rider must be cross-entered into a minimum of one Level of Non Pro Derby, Level 1, 2, 3 or 4.
Riders entering the amateur division must be Non Pros as defined in the NRHA Handbook.
Riders must abide by the non pro ownership rules as outlined in the NRHA Handbook.
All other NRHA rules apply.

The following riders are EXCLUDED from competing in the Amateur division:

Youth (An exhibitor who is 18 years of age or younger as of January 1 of the calendar year)
Level 4 Non Pro division only exhibitors
Anyone who has exceeded NRHA lifetime earnings of $100,000 in Category 2, 6, 8 and 11 as of 01/01/2023 or is currently eligible for Level 4 Non Pro only or Level 4 and Level 3 Non Pro only.
A “professional equine trainer” is defined as someone who handles the mounted preparation of a horse for remuneration with the intent to improve the horse’s performance in any equine discipline.
Individuals who previously held a NRHA Professional Open card and no longer does so.
Individual who is directly related to a professional equine trainer; husband, wife, son, daughter.
Legal dependents of professional equine trainers.
- A legal dependent is defined as being officially claimed as a dependent on a tax return, i.e. adopted child, foster child, or legal guardianship.
Spouses or legal partners/mates of professional equine trainers.
- Partner/mate status will only be accepted when the civil status is legally and lawfully registered in the country/state of residence. All relationships must be current and lawful.
Judges are eligible to compete if they meet the required criteria listed above.
